How to Play Deal or No Deal

The game deal or no deal is a  television game show which was firstly produced by a company named Banijay. Banijay is a French content production company. The core of this game is the final round also known as the case game or the main game. The main round or the case game is generally played with 26 cases, or in some versions, it is played with boxes. All the boxes or cases contain random amounts of money.

Once the players are determined, each one of the players is assigned one case or box, at the beginning of the game. The contents or the amount inside the case or box remains unknown or its contents remain disclosed.

During the initials of the game, all the players choose the cases, one at a time.  After allotting the cases or the boxes to each contestant, the game begins, and the players are asked to quit by offering some amount of money or prizes. They are asked nominal questions “Deal or no deal?” Once the player gets rid of all the boxes or cases by refusing every deal, the player gets to keep all the money kept in the box or case.

This way the player is considered a winner.

In deal or no deal the winning is dependent on whether the deal is taken or not, or whether the player should have held onto the main box or case eventually.

Deal or no deal is played in many versions such as Two-player Version or three to five player version. If you want to play Deal or no deal you can easily play Deal or no deal at Goa 247.

How to set up the Deal or no deal game for a Two-player Version?

At the beginning of the game, one player is selected as a host or banker and the other players become the contestants. At the end of the game, the players ended up with the better deal to switch roles. On each of the dollar values, attach a cover. Then put the stand back into the board and keep all the covers in position. In the next step, the host or the banker flips the value cards face down and mixes them, and without looking at the cards the banker or the host places one value card in each of the briefcases. Now the briefcase is placed side up, in order so that every player can see them.

How to play the Deal or no deal game with a Two-player Version:

All the briefcases are placed near each player and they are not allowed to open them until the end of the game, then the player calls out the number of one of the briefcases.

Round 1

In round one a player will call out the numbers of any six briefcases and the host will open those briefcases. The host opens the briefcases one by one and the matching value is given on the board is closed after each briefcase is opened. After this step, the host announces the money offer to the players to buy their briefcase, and hence the game stops.

The Host’s Offer:

To determine the amount of an offer there is no set formula. Whether a Player will take an offer or not, totally depends on various factors. As a host or a banker, your primary goal is to convince the players to buy the deal.

Here is a quick method to let you know the rough idea of the offer amount present in the briefcase and then subtract or add it with whatever number you think. Firstly add the leftover value of the scoreboard and then divide it by the number of briefcases that are still unopened.

Rounds 2 – 10

If the player rejects the offer then in round 2, the player has to open 5 briefcases, and then the game continues. There is a chart called “Paying for Guesses”, it keeps all the records of each briefcase that were opened during each round.

Ending of the Game:

The players are allowed to trade for other cases or to keep their briefcases at the end of the game. The traded briefcase is then open in front of both the traders. This is the end of the game, now players can not switch their roles and play. The player with the highest amount of money is considered the winner.

How to set up the Deal or no deal game for three to six-player Version?

Each player should hold onto their main amount until it’s their turn to become a host or banker. Through this way, each player will have enough money to make deals with their contestants.

The Kitty:

Take some amount of money from the bank and keep it in the play area – this is known as the KITTY. The rest of the money is kept safely in the bank and only taken out when required during the gameplay.

Selecting a Host/Contestant:

In this round, one player is selected as a host or banker, and another player is selected as a contestant. And, the remaining players are made to hold briefcases. Now the value cards or the money cards are shuffled and each briefcase is provided with a value card. Now the host gives out the briefcases randomly to the rest of the players except the contestant. Now, all the case holders arrange their cases in front of them in proper rows

The GamePlay:

The real game begins when the contestant chooses their special briefcase.

Round 1

Selection of briefcases:

In this round, the contestant opens up to 6 briefcases. These 6 briefcases are selected based on Calling out random numbers.

If the case holder has a briefcase, he will guess the value inside the briefcase. Briefcase holders can guess for free or by paying. If they take a free guess and it comes out to be true, then the player is awarded some amount of money from the bank. If the briefcase holder Guesses right with the pay guess, then the player will win the amount of money present inside the briefcase, from the bank.  As the number of rounds increases, the price of paid guessing increases too. The increased amount of pay guess cards are displayed in the “Paying for Guesses Chart”. Once the pay guess card is taken, it can not be returned, and all the money which is spent on the paid guesses is collected in the kitty.

Round 10:

In this round, the contestant is allowed to trade or keep their briefcase. Now, the value card or the money card allotted to each briefcase is revealed. Then the cover value is closed on the money board. After this, the contestant then selects another briefcase, and the case holder Guesses the value of the briefcase, which is covered on the money board. If the contestants agree to take the offer, the banker or the host pays the amount from their stack of money. And, again the host pays the price for the next guess of the contestant’s special briefcase. In this round the host can not guess for free, he/she needs to pay the price to guess. If the guess comes out to be true, the host will get the amount given on the value card from the bank.

Now the next two hosts and a contestant are set up for the next game. Again, if the contestant refuses to take the offer, they will go to the next round, where they will have to choose the briefcases. Once the selection of all the cases for this round is done, the host makes an offer. This gameplay is continuing for the next 9 rounds until someone calls an offer.

The last 2 briefcases:

If the contestant makes it all the way to round 10, there will be only the last two briefcases remaining. The one briefcase remains with the case holder and one will be the contestant’s special case. At this stage the host will make one last money offer, if the Contestant refuses to take the offer, then they are allowed to trade or keep their case. Before the contestant opens their special case, the case holder Guesses the amount present in that briefcase. Now the contestant opens their briefcase. The value inside the briefcase is the value wined

from the host by the contestant.

Now the next host and a contestant are selected and they repeat the whole process and the game continues. If the contestant refuses to take the last main offer, then the case holder is not allowed to Guess what is inside that case.

How to win the kitty:

There are generally two ways to win the kitty:

If the contestant chooses the briefcase containing “Holder wins Kitty”. The contestant holding that particular case is considered as a winner immediately. It’s the same case with the

holder, he/she does not need to guess, he or she will be considered as winner immediately.

Empty Kitty:

When a Player has won recently, the kitty remains empty, even if either of the “win kitty” cards are selected, then the next player will win no money.

Re-establishing the Kitty:

When all the money in the kitty is exhausted, the reestablishment of the kitty is done. To re-start the kitty some amount of money is taken from the bank by the host, if not done so the kitty will remain empty.

To figure out who is winning, you can pause the game from time to time and have all players add up the amount of money they have to figure out who is winning. Although, it can affect people’s decisions, as the game will become predictable when the game gets closer to the end.

Keeping records of the briefcases:

A good host should always keep records of all the briefcases including how many briefcases have been opened, how many of them remained unopened. A host is also allowed to ask the contestants about the briefcases.

Negotiation of the offer:

A contestant and host/banker are also allowed to bargain or negotiate about the offer with anyone. For example, if the host offers ₹50,000, the contestant may say or try to convince it at ₹45,000.
